Q: How do I join my tutoring session?
A: Open your Dojo Tutor dashboard in your web browser. About 15 minutes before class starts, a "Join Class" button will appear. Click it to launch Zoom in the Zoom Workplace app (not in a browser). Enable your audio and video, then wait for your student to join.
Q: I clicked "Join Class," but Zoom opened in my web browser instead of the app. What should I do?
A: Close the browser tab and manually open the Zoom Workplace app on your device. Then, return to your Dojo Tutor dashboard and click "Join Class" again. If prompted, select "Open in Zoom App" instead of the browser.
Q: My student can’t hear me. How do I fix my audio?
A: Check that your microphone is unmuted in Zoom. Ensure Zoom has permission to access your microphone in device settings. Try selecting a different microphone in Zoom settings by clicking the up arrow next to the microphone icon. You may need to help troubleshoot for your student as well. Ensure their volume is turned up and the speaker is not connected to a secondary source like airpods.
Q: My student’s video is off. Can I turn it on for them?
A: No, students must manually enable their own video. You can ask them to click the camera icon in Zoom and check that their device allows Zoom to access their camera.
Q: Zoom is lagging or freezing. How do I improve the connection?
A: Use a wired Ethernet connection instead of Wi-Fi whenever possible. Close unnecessary apps and devices using the internet. Move closer to your router or restart it before class. You can also run a speed test at speedtest.net to check your connection.
