- No, you won’t receive an alert when a substitute covers your class.

- No, substitutes will handle the session without needing additional lesson plans. They will plan a lesson based on your previous classes session summaries.

- A session summary will be provided in your dashboard.

- Currently, there’s no direct way for tutors and substitutes to connect, but we’re always working to improve!
For tutors substituting

How will I know if I’ve been assigned a substitute class?
- You’ll receive a notification via text and email, and the class will appear on your dashboard. Classes may be assigned a few days before, or up to two hours before they are set to happen.

What should I cover in the class?
- You’ll have access to the student's last three session summaries and/or their initial assessment to guide your lesson. If the student has had fewer than three sessions, you’ll receive all available session summaries along with the assessment. Use this information to prepare a one-time, focused activity for the class.

How should I pace and facilitate the session?

What is the pay rate for subbing?
- You’ll be paid your usual subscription class rate.

What happens if the student doesn’t show up?
- You’ll still be paid for the session if the class is not canceled 24 hours before the class is scheduled to start. Stay logged in for the full class time. After 12 minutes, you can turn off your camera and mic, and use the remaining time for planning. If the student joins late, let them know to follow up with Customer Support for next steps.

What if I can’t facilitate the class?
- It’s critical that you attend substitute classes. The family and kids are looking to you to provide consistency with their learning schedule. If you cancel, that means the family has a terrible experience. If you absolutely need to cancel, follow the usual process.

Can I leave notes for the student or family?
- Yes, you’re welcome to leave a short welcome message or a kind goodbye, but keep notes minimal for substitute classes.

Can I only facilitate substitute classes?
- At this time, Dojo Tutors are expected to participate in both trial and subscription classes. Substituting is offered as an additional opportunity, not a standalone role.

What if the student or family asks me to be their regular tutor?
- Kindly thank them but explain that their regular tutor will be returning. After class, please reach out to Customer Support and explain, and we’ll follow up.
- Example: "Thanks so much! I'm really glad you enjoyed our session. Your regular tutor will be back soon to continue working with you, but I'll let our Customer Support team know about your request, and they'll follow up with next steps.”

But if you’d prefer, you can always reschedule with your regular tutor. Just let me know, and I’ll stay here until class time ends. I’ll also reach out to Customer Support and let them know the situation."
