The Substitute Tutor Program allows tutors to step in when a family’s regular tutor is unavailable, helping ensure students never miss a learning opportunity. It’s a flexible way to support families, expand your reach, and build trust with new students, while maintaining high standards of family trust and reliability.
Participation in the Substitute Tutor Program is optional and based on your platform performance as outlined in the Insights dashboard. Continued eligibility for the program is based on reliability metrics and family satisfaction criteria.

Session Logistics & Common Questions
-
How will I know if I’ve been offered a session?
You’ll receive an email notification, and the session will appear on your dashboard. Some sessions are randomly matched with eligible, available tutors based on the student's preferences and needs, while others appear as short-notice opportunities you can claim. -
What if a student doesn’t show up?
If the family didn’t cancel in advance and the student doesn't show up, there's nothing you need to report, and rest assured that you’ll still be paid. -
What is the pay rate?
Substitute classes are paid your regular class rate. If a session is canceled and doesn’t take place, payment does not apply. -
What if I can’t teach a session I accepted on short notice?
Only accept short-notice substitute sessions you can confidently facilitate. If something unavoidable comes up, cancel as early as possible following the standard process. Reliability is critical for this program. -
What if a family wants to continue with me as their regular tutor?
Great work! Families can email us at tutoring-support@classdojo.com requesting to continue with you as their subscription tutor. Our team will be happy to assist them with the transition— no extra action is required on your end.
When Substitute Opportunities May Be Paused
Eligibility for substitute opportunities is automatically paused when the required criteria are no longer met. This may occur for the following reasons:
🔹 Reliability Criteria
Including:
- No-shows
- Frequent late arrivals
- Last-minute cancellations
🔹 Family Feedback
- Repeated negative reviews or reports related to substitute sessions
What Happens While Your Substitute Opportunities Are Paused
Your eligibility is automatically determined based on the same criteria applied to all tutors. When your substitute opportunities are paused:
- You won't receive new in-advance or short-notice substitute opportunities.
- You can continue tutoring on the platform as usual. A temporary pause in substitute eligibility does not affect your ability to teach existing subscription students or new trial students.
You can review your current metrics in your Insights Dashboard.
Can I Rejoin the Program?
Yes! Eligibility is based on your most recent classes. Once you meet the requirements again, you'll automatically receive an invitation to rejoin the Substitute Tutor Program.
