Your profile photo

Your profile photo is one of the first things families notice when choosing a tutor for their child. A professional, friendly photo helps create a strong first impression, building trust and showcasing your dedication to your role. It’s a key way to convey approachability, confidence, and professionalism—qualities families look for when selecting someone to support their child’s learning journey.

A great profile photo can make all the difference in helping families feel confident in their choice.

Tips for a good profile photo

Ensure the following:

  • You are centered in the frame
  • You have a light source in front or above you, not behind you
  • You have a Dojo Tutor background
  • You have a welcoming facial expression
  • You are looking at the camera (or directly ahead of you)
  • Watch for the glare in glasses (use overhead lighting)
  • You’re dressed professionally, like a tutor.

What to Avoid:

  • Car selfies or photos taken in casual, distracting settings.
  • Low-quality images, such as blurry or pixelated photos.
  • Photos of photos, including snapshots of printed pictures or ID cards.
  • Group photos where you’re not clearly identifiable.
  • Distracting backgrounds with clutter or poor lighting.
  • Cartoons or illustrations should not be used as your profile photo.

A polished, professional photo helps ensure families see you as a confident, approachable tutor ready to help their child succeed.
