During your sessions, you may choose to use additional platforms to support learning. When doing so, you must only use platforms that comply with COPPA requirements, which are designed to protect children’s privacy.
Anytime a student actively engages with a website— e.g., accessing, clicking, or inputting text— COPPA compliance should be considered. Avoid sharing websites or apps that collect or store student data without meeting these protections. Sticking to COPPA-compliant platforms helps build trust with families and create a safe and secure learning environment for every student.
Not all platforms and resources used in a traditional classroom comply with COPPA requirements, as these rely on explicit permissions families grant or agree to at the beginning of each school year.
Here are some approved platforms, so you can feel confident using these with your students:
- Seesaw
- EBSCO Explora
- ABCmouse
- Epic
- Starfall
- IXL
- Gimkit
- Nearpod
- Book Creator
- Quizlet
- Wayground
- Math Playground
- National Geographic Kids
- Fact Monster
One thing to note, though, is that the list above is not exhaustive. As a tutor, you can use other third-party platforms; however, you are responsible for ensuring that any resource students access or interact with complies with COPPA.
Student safety and privacy are always a top priority, and COPPA requirements help ensure that children’s data is handled safely and responsibly. If you'd like to learn more about our tutoring session guidelines and quality policies, click here.
We know many platforms can be engaging and helpful, and we appreciate your support in using platforms that meet these requirements. If you have any questions, our team is always happy to help point you in the right direction.
