Reliability: How do late cancellations or no-shows impact me as a tutor?

Our system prioritizes tutors with fewer no-shows and late cancellations when assigning trials and new opportunities, as that’s one of the attributes families value most. If you maintain a low rate of no-shows and late cancellations, you’ll be rewarded with more opportunities, such as additional trials or the chance to become a substitute tutor.

📌 What counts toward my reliability record?

We’re specifically tracking late cancellations and no-shows, as these are most disruptive to families. Here's what you need to know:

Frequently asked questions

Q: Do late cancellations affect both trial and subscription classes?
A: Yes, both types of classes are included in your cancellation rate.

Q: What if I give families advance notice that I can't make a class?
A: That’s totally fine! Only late cancellations count! These are cancellations, reschedules, or substitute assignments caused by an out-of-office (OOO) notice submitted less than 24 hours before class.

Q: Do family-initiated cancellations count against me?
A: Nope! We only look at sessions you canceled, rescheduled, or assigned to a sub with under 24 hours' notice.

Q: How do late cancellations and no-shows affect my chances of getting trials?
A: When a new trial becomes available, our system compares available tutors based on:

  • Subject, grade, and schedule match

  • Specializations

  • Reliability, including your record of no-shows and late cancellations

Tutors with strong attendance records are more likely to be selected.

Q: Are no-shows and late cancellations weighed the same?
A: No. No-shows are more serious than late cancellations. For example, a tutor with one late cancellation would be prioritized over a tutor with one no-show for a new trial.

Q: Why are substitute tutor roles given only to highly reliable tutors?
A: Students in need of a substitute have already experienced a cancellation. We want to provide them with a smooth, consistent experience, so we choose tutors who have shown strong reliability.

Q: Does my current reliability affect future opportunities?
A: Yes! Our system uses a rolling evaluation of your recent attendance. So even if you've had a few bumps in the past, improving your record now will help you qualify for more assignments.

Q: Over what time period is reliability measured?
A: We look at several months of data, depending on how long you’ve been teaching and how many sessions you’ve completed.

Q: Where can I see the updated policies?
A: We’ve updated the following resources:
