Spark curiosity and wonder as kids discover how the world works 🧪🌍. Through interactive lessons, thoughtful assessments, and engaging exploration, you’ll inspire future scientists one session at a time. You’ll teach science topics according to each student’s grade level, diving into fascinating areas like Physical Science, Life Science, Engineering & Design, and Earth & Space.
Are you a good fit?
We’re looking for tutors who:
- Have a strong foundation in science education
- Know how to teach scientific concepts in a way that's developmentally appropriate, accurate, and engaging
- Have a solid understanding of science topics across grade levels and know how to teach them effectively
- Have planned and delivered science instruction effectively
Science trial assessment
Just like with all other subjects, you’ll begin with an initial trial assessment for Science. Use these slide decks to evaluate your learner’s understanding of science concepts appropriate
to their grade level. The trial session is an opportunity to see where the student is currently
in their skills and knowledge, so you can set meaningful goals and plan engaging lessons for
future sessions. 🌟Hot Tip: 55 minute sessions for grades 6 and up would be super beneficial! 🌟
Weekly science classes
Here is the pacing guide for weekly science classes:
- Introductions: welcome your student back to class. Catch up with them before you get started.
- Goal Review: quickly review science goals you are looking to make progress on.
- Main Lesson: jump into your planned lesson to help make growth toward their goals. This may be hands-on experiments, interactive lessons, or age appropriate readings and/or videos.
- Wrap up: review your goals and chat about what you will do in your next class.

FAQ
Q: Who can I teach Science to?
A: You can teach Science to students in all grades—from young learners exploring basic concepts to older students diving into more advanced topics. You can choose which grades you want to teach. You should have experience working with those grades, as we want students to learn from tutors who not only love science, but also understand how to teach it in a way that’s clear, age-appropriate, and engaging.
Q: What topics will I cover in Science sessions?
A: You’ll teach grade-appropriate topics such as: Life Science (plants, animals, cells, ecosystems), Physical Science (matter, reactions, atoms), Engineering & Design Science (defining real world problems, prototyping, building simple structures), Earth & Space Science (weather, rocks, the solar system). The specific subjects you cover will depend on each student’s grade level, existing knowledge, and individual learning goals.
Q: What is the purpose of the Science trial assessment?
A: The trial assessment helps you understand the student’s current skills and knowledge, build rapport, and set clear goals for future sessions. You’ll use the provided an assessment slide deck to guide your evaluation and identify strengths and areas for growth.
Q: Do I need to prepare physical experiments?
A: Since sessions are virtual, you can use interactive demonstrations, videos, virtual labs, and engaging discussions to bring science concepts to life. If you’re able to incorporate simple hands-on experiments, go for it! Tutors who can creatively bring science off the screen—whether through guided activities, show-and-tell setups, or home-friendly experiments—help make learning even more memorable and exciting.
Q: Will there be a trial session for Science?
A: Yes! Just like with all other subjects, you’ll begin with an initial trial session to assess the student’s current skills and understanding. Be sure to use the Science trial slide deck we provide to guide your assessment. This helps you get a clear picture of what the student already knows and what they’re ready to learn next, so you can set meaningful goals and plan effective lessons.
Q: Do I need to create Science goals for each student?
A: Yes! Setting clear, personalized goals is an essential part of effective tutoring.
Q: Why is creating goals important?
A: Give students a clear sense of purpose and direction, measure progress over time, keep sessions focused and engaging, and celebrate achievements, big and small.
Q: Do I still need to walk families through the booking process after the Science trial session?
A: Yes! Just like with any other subject, you’ll wrap up the trial session by discussing your observations and working with the student and their family to set goals that match their learning needs. After that, be sure to share your availability and help them book their next session using the QR code provided on the slides.
