Product Update: Longer Classes! 🕓

Here’s What Tutors Need to Know

We’re excited to share a meaningful update shaped by both family feedback and our commitment to serving older students: Longer Classes are coming to Dojo Tutor!

Families starting new subscriptions, as well as active subscribers, can choose between our classic 25-minute sessions or a new 55-minute session option. The longer session allows for deeper engagement, smoother pacing, and more time for meaningful learning.

🚀 Why We’re Launching Longer Sessions

Many of you have already experienced families requesting back-to-back sessions, especially for older or more advanced learners. The upcoming 55-minute class option addresses that need while simplifying your planning and reducing transitions between sessions.

Here’s what makes longer sessions a win:

  • More teaching time and stronger pacing
  • Deeper student engagement and better momentum
  • Simpler prep (one longer class vs. two separate ones)

Frequently asked questions

Q: Who can book longer classes?

  • Families who set up a new subscription after a trial class will see the option to book longer sessions.
  • Active subscribers can also update their child’s weekly class length to 55-minutes at any time through the Parent Dashboard.
    • Trial classes remain 25 minutes long.

Q: What session lengths are available?

  • 25-minute sessions (what you’re used to)
  • 55-minute sessions (the new option)

All sessions within a subscription will be the same length.

Q: How will I know a class is 55 minutes?

  • Session start and end times will be clearly displayed in your Tutor Dashboard

Q: Can substitute tutors cover longer classes?

  • Yes! As long as you’ve enabled 55-minute classes in your settings, you’ll be eligible to substitute for longer sessions.

Q: How much will I be paid for 55-minute classes?

  • Tutors will be paid double the payout of a 25-minute session for each 55-minute session

This is designed to fairly reflect your time while also giving families a small discount for longer bookings.

Reminder: These longer sessions typically involve less prep than two separate 25-minute classes with different students and allow for a more focused teaching experience.

Q: Will families pay more for longer sessions?

Yes, families will pay more for longer sessions—but still within a value-conscious range. Prices vary based on:

  • Session length (25 vs. 55 minutes)
  • Tutor tier (Verified, Experienced, or Licensed)
  • Time of day (Peak vs. Non-peak hours)
  • Number of sessions per week

Instead of booking two separate 25-minute classes, families can now opt for one streamlined 55-minute class at a better overall value.

Q: Can I opt out of teaching longer sessions?

  • Yes! You’re always in control

To opt out of 55-minute sessions:

  1. Go to Account Settings
  2. Scroll to Availability Settings
  3. Uncheck “Offer 55-minute classes”

Note: Tutors who opt out will not be matched with students booking longer sessions.

Q: Will existing families be able to switch to longer sessions?

  • Yes, families can update their child’s weekly class length to 55-minutes at any time through the Parent Dashboard. Tutors can recommend this to those currently using back-to-back sessions.

Q: Can this change my current bookings?

  • Yes! Active subscribers now have the option to update their class length to 55-minutes.

Q: Will I need to prep more for 55-minute classes?

  • You’ll have more time with the student, but most tutors find it easier to prepare for one longer session than for two shorter ones with different students. It’s more continuous, more focused, and gives you flexibility to adjust pacing mid-lesson.
