Tutor-Set Pricing FAQ

🚀 Getting Started

  1. Why can't I see the option to set my prices on my Tutor Dashboard?

Tutor-Set Pricing is slowly rolling out in waves for only tutors who enrolled in the beta release. If you're part of the beta release and your wave has gone live, you should be able to set your own prices directly from the Tutor Dashboard. If you don't see it yet, we'll notify you when Tutor-Set Pricing becomes available.

🧑‍🏫Existing Subscribers

  1. Will setting my prices change what my current subscribers pay

No. Setting your prices will not automatically change the price for your existing subscribers.

If a family ends their current subscription and later starts a new subscription, the new subscription will follow the pricing available at that time.

  2. What happens to my payout for an existing subscription?

When you set your price for either tutoring or group sessions, your payout will be 65-70% of that price. If the resulting payout would be lower than what you currently earn for that subscription, Dojo Tutor will match your current payout for that subscription.

  3. What happens if a family pauses instead of canceling?

A pause allows the family to temporarily stop classes without ending the subscription. This may help the family preserve their existing subscription price and terms.

If they cancel and later restart, the restarted subscription may use your current tutor-set price instead.

đź’¸ Earnings Boost

  1. How does the Earnings Boost work?

Tutors receive 65% of their set price. After completing 35 eligible paid classes with the same family, the payout increases to 70% for that family.

The Earnings Boost is an ongoing higher payout rate, not a one-time lump-sum bonus.

  2. Do classes completed before I opt in count toward the 35-class Earnings Boost requirement?

Yes, classes completed before option into Tutor-set Pricing count towards the 35-class total. In fact, the 35-class total is account-wide per learner family.

  3. Does the 35-class count reset if I teach the learner a different subject?

No, the class count is cumulative across the family’s account.

  4. Does the 35-class count reset if a family pauses their subscription?

No. Pausing a subscription does not reset the tutor’s eligible class count with that family.

Encouraging a family to pause instead of canceling may also help them keep their existing subscription terms.

  5. Does the 35-class count reset if a family cancels?

The eligible class count does not reset. However, if the family ends their subscription and later starts a new one, the price and payout for the new subscription may be different.

đź’°Setting Your Prices

  1. Do my teaching credentials automatically affect my price?

No. The product does not automatically change your price based on your credentials.

However, your credentials, experience, and areas of expertise can help families understand the value you offer. Make sure these details are clearly represented in your tutor profile.

  2. Will Dojo Tutor’s pricing recommendations account for my credentials and experience?

When selecting your price point, we’ll make recommendations right as you’re calculating your payout.

  3. Can I set a different price for each individual group class?

No, at this time all group classes will be priced the same.

  4. Can I adjust the price of trial classes?

No. Trial pricing is not currently set by tutors.

The family trial price is $5, and tutors who opt into Tutor-Set Pricing receive a $3.25 trial payout.

  5. Will opting into Tutor-Set Pricing eventually become mandatory

While not mandatory at this time, we may make a full transition in the coming months. More updates will be shared from our end.

đź‘« Family Pricing and Fees

  1. Will families pay taxes or fees in addition to the price I set?

Families may see the applicable Dojo Tutor platform fee and any other family-facing charges during the booking or checkout experience.

Your tutor view shows your payout information, while the family view shows the amount the family pays. These are separate experiences.

  2. Can tutors see exactly what the family pays?

Tutors will see their own set price and payout information. Families will see their total family-facing price.

Just as families do not see the tutor’s payout, tutors may not see every family-facing pricing detail from their own dashboard.

↔️ Substitutes, Cancellations, and No-Shows

  1. How is my payout calculated when I teach as a substitute?

For substitute classes, you’ll receive your standard 1x1 class payout that is based on the pricing that you set.

  2. What happens to my payout if a substitute class is canceled at the last minute?

Our substitute class cancellation policy is still applicable here. If a substitute class is canceled before the session start time, the substitute tutor will not receive a payout for the class.

  3. Do I still get paid if the learner does not attend the class?

Yes, tutors will continue to get paid for any learner no-shows as established here.
